The Higher Education Division of Apple announced the release of “Smart Solutions.” These hardware/software packages are designed to enhance teaching by providing faculty with technology solutions tailored to their disciplines. The four include Academic Ideas, Business, Computer Science, and Engineering & Science.
Academic Ideas is designed to enhance general academic and humanities presentations and multimedia capabilities. The package includes a Macintosh IIvx, and INSPIRATION for ideas and thought processing. It also includes Aldus Persuasion for presentations, Macromedia Action for multimedia presentation with sound, animation, and QuickTime movies, and DiVA VideoShop for creating, editing, and integrating QuickTime movies.
Business comes with the Macintosh PowerBook Duo 210 and Lotus 1-2-3 for Macintosh. It also includes Now Up-to-Date 2.0, an electronic personal organizer calendar, SYSTAT for Macintosh, a statistics program, Dow Jones Market Analyzer PLUS, and Macintosh PC Exchange, a Macintosh system software extension, which allows an Apple floppy drive to mount and directly read DOS, Windows, and OS/2 disks.
Computer Science features the Macintosh Quadra 700, THINK Pascal, THINK C, THINK Reference, an on-line Macintosh Toolbox reference, AppMaker Your Assistant Programmer, a user interface creation tool, which generates the code once an interface is designed, and Macintosh Common LISP.
Engineering & Science includes the Macintosh Quadra 700 and Mathematica 2.1 for Macintosh for numerical and symbolic math computation with graphics and charting. It also includes SYSTAT for Macintosh for statistics, and DeltaGraph Professional for Macintosh for scientific charting and graphing.
Smart Solutions packages will also offer customers coupons for additional software solutions such as Video VISION, PowerPort/Gold, and TelePort/ Gold.
